The conventional tool, a formed insert with chamfering edges, produced long chips, thus the operation with step feed was necessary in order to break the chips. Also, fracture occurred on the cutting edge due to chattering caused by high cutting force.- By increasing the feed rate without step feed, TetraForce-Cut achieved the same cycle time as the formed insert, although the operation required 3 passes.- TetraForce-Cut extended tool life by 2.5 times as the tool prevented fracture and chattering. Furthermore, tool cost was drastically reduced by replacing the customized tool into a standard.
